dear journal,
i am at school durning the summer because after high school we are getting drafted in to the war. but i dont think there really is a war. i am at devon school.the school is named after the town which is also named devon ant it is in new hamshire. i hang out with my frieneds named gene ,chet ,bobby and lepar
and brinker. and there is a river with a big tree on its bank. i decided that we should make a club named the super suicide soiciety of the summer session and that every time we meet we should jump off a tree into the river. i share a room with my friend gene. "the tree was tremendous, an irate, steely black steeple beside the river." we have our club meating almost everynight during the summer and the way we open the meating is by jumping of the tree into the river. i made gene and lepar jump into the river with me but i could tell that gene was alittle nervous. i wasnt scared of anything i would do anything.

dear journal 1942
to day i wore a pink shirt all over campus and i wore a tie for a belt. mr. patch withers stopped me when i walked passed him and he told me that what i was doing was disrespectful and that i shouldnt be weraring my cloths like that. i should be wearing my school uniform but i can get out of any situation. im a smooth talker so mr. patch withers thought that it was kinda funny after and he was ok with it. i am five feet and eight and a half inches tall and about one hundred and fifty pounds. people say that i am athletic strong smat a risk taker and goofy. i dont relly think the war is real gene is just like me but he thinks he is five feet and nine inches. me and gene were both going to turn seventeen at the end of the summer and after that we would be drafted into the army. i had saved gene from falling onto the bank and if he hadfallen he might have broken hes back.

life is a beach I’m just playing in the sand. we had to leave the beach early this morning because gene had to take a test. gene has been acting kind of weird lately and he is studying a lot more. he said he wants to be the valid Victorian of our class. and he doesn’t pay that much attention to me anymore. i wanted gene to jump off the tree with me into the river because i want to do more things with him and do them today.we were climbing the tree and i got onto the limb that we always jump off and suddenly i started i fall and as i was falling i saw was genes face and then it went dark.

I woke up in the hospital and i must have broken my leg when i fell from the tree. The doctor told me that i had shattered it completely and the doctor also said that i will never be able to play sports again. im good at sports so i was sad that i was never going to be able to play them again. i must have lost my balance when i was standing on the limb. i asked for gene to visit me. When he came we talked about what happened. When the fall session was starting i was at my house in Boston and gene came to visit me. He told me that it was he fault that i fell and that he caused the accident. But i didn’t believe that he did it and i told him to leave. i also told him that i would hit him if he didnt stop.

when i was still at my house. brinker had come into my room at devon and talked to gene.gene said he talked about the accident and that gene had the room all to hiself. everyone likes briker. brinker said that gene fixed being alone during the fall session and that they both went down to the butt room. they were acusing gene of trying to get rid of me and that he tried to kill me. i dont think that there is a plce for me in the war and i dont think i should be in it. leper thinks the war is funny and he wants to be in it because its like a joke to him.it was begining to get cold and the winter session was almost here. i returned to devon after a while of being at home and getting better.

i had returned to devon during the winter session. gene had walked in the room and he seemed alittle surprized to see me. i told him that he was the worst dressed boy in class and if he was working in the boiler room. he said that he was working on a railroad shoveling snow off the tracks. there is alot of snow on the ground.gene has started to pray again. i dont no why hi is though it might be because of me. me and gene went to the gym and on our way in i saw all the things that i had won and things with my name on it. sports seem less important in war time becuase everyone is focused on the war and the war was the main thing. devon looks like a museum and the architecture is unique and there are alot on sports fields.

lepar had enlisted into the army and that made the war seem unreal. nuthing could make im enlist. a ski troop recruiter had come to devon and showed a film about it.lepar likes to ski and it made him realize that it would be good to do that. lepar changed his mind an enlisted into the ski troop because he thought it would be fun. i dont htink that that is a healthy thing to do just becuase u like it. he might not like it or it might not be what he thought it would be. a week later lepar was gone.lepar was devons first world war two recruit.when we were in the butt room we were talking about lepar and jokes about how he had done all these heroic things. we all wondered if we would measure up to the minimum standard of the army.i said that "if someone gave lepar a loaded gun and put it at hitlers temple, he'd miss.we had all made a winter carnival in the public park on the bank of the nagumsett river.

lepar was discharged from the army because he went crazy.gene went to lepars house in vermont.lepar had called gene a savage. lepar said that he always knew it he just never admitted it and that he admitted a hell of lot to himself.gene had told me that him and lepar had gotten into a little fight. but every thibg is ok between them.gene and lepar had lunch and they took a walk after.

when i was walking up the stairs to get away from everybody i had fallen down. i had been brotten to the imfiermery by dr. stanole. gene had gotten a note saying to bring my things to the infermery. when i had fallen i had rebroken my leg. gene came to the infermery and he had come in through the window. when i was talking to gene i told him that i tried to enlist into th army and that i applied to al the different branchs but the rejected me because of my injury and because of my leg.i alson told gene that i forgive him for what he did and that i will accept what happend to me. the doctor ssaid that i would have to go into surgery to fix my leg.

when i saved gene he didnt even thatnk me.he tried to blame me for making him falll in the first place. i think that gene might be jealious of me. i like to play sports and i always win. i made up a game that we would play because all of the other things that we had to play were stupid like badminton and softball. bitzball is played with a medicine ball where the person with the ball runs and everyone else in chasing you and you can pass it to anyone u want, and you have to knok=ck the person down but u cant use your arms.you can aslo refuse the bal if it is being passed to you. in blitzball there arnt any teams so its every man for himself. i am very good a sports and im better than gene. i broke the swimming record by .7 seconds. gene had times my but i was only doing it for fun and i didnt want anybody to know that i broke it. i didnt want them to know because im not a swimmer. me an gene decided to go to the beach we rode our bikes there we went swimming sll after noon and we even selpt on the beach that night. i told gene that he was my best friend but he didnt say it back to me.
